How to Complete Your 2026-2027 FAFSA

  1. Create or Log In to your StudentAid.gov Account: You (and any "contributors" such as a parent or spouse) will need a verified FSA ID to sign the form electronically.
  2. Complete the Form Online: Visit fafsa.gov to start your application.
  3. Add Our School Code: Ensure you include Old Dominion University (School Code: 003728) so that we receive your data.
  4. Review and Submit: Double-check your information and ensure all required contributors have provided their electronic signatures.

Why the March 2nd Date Matters
While you can technically file a FAFSA after this date, meeting the priority deadline is the best way to ensure your financial aid offer is processed in time for the 2026-2027 award cycle.

If you have already submitted your FAFSA, please monitor your email and the student portal for any requests for additional documentation.

Many online students are continually enrolled, taking courses throughout the summer to earn the ODU degree more quickly. In many cases, summer financial aid is available, often through federal loans and, for some students, a Federal Pell Grant.  If you are enrolled in an eligible format, Old Dominion University may use a borrower-based academic year (BBAY) approach for federal Direct Loans. In plain terms, BBAY can align your loan eligibility to your actual enrollment cycle, so you may be able to use financial aid for summer coursework instead of waiting for a traditional fall-to-spring calendar to “reset.”
