Six programs and three schools at Old Dominion University were nationally recognized in the newly updated rankings for Best Graduate Schools by U.S. News & World Report.
ODU’s graduate programs and schools that earned the highest placement in the survey are the Strome College of Business part-time MBA program, the Darden College of Education and Professional Studies graduate programs and the Doctor of Nursing Program (DNP) in the School of Nursing.
The rankings for these programs are:
- No. 123 (tie) Best Graduate Part-Time MBA Programs (out of 269)
- No. 79 (tie) Best Graduate Education Schools Programs (out of 255)
- No. 64 (tie) Best Nursing Schools: Doctor of Nursing Practice (out of 156)
“What’s most striking about the latest U.S. News & World Report Best Graduate Programs rankings is that most of the the University’s colleges and schools are represented,” said Robert Wojtowicz, former vice provost and dean of the graduate school. “This is an important indicator of both the quality and breadth of our graduate enterprise.”
Other graduate programs and schools ranked in the survey are:
- No. 148 (tie) Best Computer Science Graduate Schools (out of 205)
- No. 36 (tie) Best Nursing-Anesthesia (CRNA) Graduate Schools (out of 131)
- No. 126 (tie) Best Occupational Therapy Graduate Programs (out of 263)
- No. 99 (tie) Best Public Affairs Graduate Programs (out of 270)
- No. 140 (tie) Best Public Health Graduate Schools (out of 209)
- No. 103 (tie) Best Speech-Language Pathology Graduate Programs (out of 280)
- No. 153 (tie) Best Engineering Schools (out of 199)
“We enroll more than 4,800 full- and part-time graduate students,” said Wojtowicz in a statement. “Our programs and schools are recognized nationally and internationally for quality and the extensive research, publications and creative activity of our acclaimed faculty.”
ODU’s Graduate School offers 42 master's programs, 22 doctoral degrees and several certificates and licenses.
Designed to aid prospective graduate students in their selection process, the Best Graduate Schools rankings evaluate programs in various categories including business, education, nursing and law.
U.S. News & World Report’s Best Graduate Schools rankings are based on two types of data: expert opinion about program excellence and statistical indicators measuring the quality of faculty, research, students and their post-graduate outcomes.

This is just the most recent achievement for ODU. Last Fall, ODU was ranked as a top national university by U.S. News & World Report. The University also received a Gold ranking as a 2024-25 Military Friendly® School in May and was named a 2023 Best for Vets College by militaryfriendly.com. In June 2023, ODU ranked 58th internationally and fourth in the U.S. for reducing inequalities in The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings. This was the third consecutive year the University received this recognition.
