About this Program

Old Dominion University offers a Bachelor of Science in Park, Recreation and Tourism Studies with a Major in Tourism and Hospitality Management. It prepares students for careers as working in the hospitality, travel and tourism industry, as well as festival and event planning. Students take classes with experienced industry professionals, complete a practicum prior to their internship, and have the opportunity to attend conferences such as the VA-1 Tourism Summit and the Virginia Green Travel Alliance Conference.

Program Highlights

  • Tourism & Hospitality Management students engage in service learning activities such as volunteering with the Virginia International Tattoo Festival and other area events.

  • Students gain industry experience through a practicum with a travel or tourism organization before their final internship.

  • Students have the opportunity to take classes with industry professionals who have years of experience planning and executing meetings, festivals, and events.

Requirements

What are the requirements to apply for Tourism & Hospitality Management at ODU?
Students entering the Bachelor of Science program in Tourism & Hospitality Management should meet the minimum university admission requirements Undergraduate Admission.

Have completed 12 semester hours of course work (including ENGL 110C) with a grade point average of 2.00. Have a personal interview with a faculty member in the program.
Complete a background check to ensure eligibility for service learning experiences with youth.
