Launched in 1977, and carrying the infamous Golden Record, the Voyager 1 probe is the furthest object humans have sent into space. Now, 49 years later, it will reach a new milestone for human achievement: a distance of 1 light-day.
That’s the distance light can travel in 24 hours. Equaling about 16 billion miles, Voyager 1 will officially reach this momentum achievement on November 18, 2026, at 5:16:07am EST.
Join us for a view of the night sky and learn more about the bold mission to explore the cosmos.
