Dear Monarchs,

We are thrilled to announce the upcoming Monarch Leadership Conference for students at Old Dominion University, scheduled for Friday, February 12, 2027. This one-day event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Webb Student Center, offering sessions in-person, virtually, and in hybrid formats.

Call for Proposals

We invite faculty and staff to identify and collaborate with a student leader in submitting a session proposal. This gives a unique, collaborative mentorship for our student leaders to present at a conference. Each session will be about 50 minutes long, allowing plenty of time to engage with the audience. We encourage diverse topics and engaging methods to foster meaningful discussions and interactions around Leadership and its intersection with Career & Self Development.

Some popular sessions from previous years include:

  • The ABC’s of Work-Life Balance
  • Start With Duty: Leadership and Career Excellence Through the Eyes of a Cyber Officer
  • Building Your Personal Brand on LinkedIn!
  • Who, What, When, Where, How and Never Why: Asking the Best Questions

Our soft deadline for proposals is December 1, 2026. If additional time is needed, feel free to reach out. Submit your session proposal here: https://cglink.me/2cN/s95650

What We Need from Proposals

To help us review and organize the sessions effectively, please ensure your proposal includes the following:

  • Information on Presenters: Names and brief bios of all presenters to introduce your expertise and experience.
  • Topic/Working Title
  • Description of Topic: A draft outline of what attendees can expect to learn and explore during your session.
  • 8-to-Great Competencies Covered: Specify which competencies will be highlighted or developed through your session (Leadership, Communication, etc.).
  • Preferred Time Slots: Your availability within the conference schedule to help us accommodate your session accordingly.
  • Modality Preference: Indicate whether you prefer to present in-person only, hybrid, or online-only.
    • Engagement Strategy for Online Audience: Outline your approach for actively engaging participants in virtual formats to ensure an interactive experience.
    • Best practices for Zoom sessions include breakout rooms, interactive polls or surveys, chat prompts, zoom whiteboards, verbal discussion, etc.

Encourage Student Attendance

We hope you will encourage students to attend all or part of this mini-conference. While marketing materials will be provided in early January, please share a ‘Save the Date’ now with your student networks.

Thank you for considering this opportunity to engage and inspire our student leaders. Your involvement will help make the Monarch Leadership Conference an enriching and memorable experience for everyone.

With Monarch Pride,
Otis Williams
