Encourage Students to Attend: Resume Refresh & Career Fair
Faculty and staff are encouraged to promote student attendance at Resume Refresh and the Career Fair, two high-impact events that connect academic learning to career readiness.
Resume Refresh helps students translate coursework, projects, and experiences into strong resumes, while the Career Fair allows them to practice professional communication, explore career paths, and engage directly with employers.
Participation in these events supports the development of the Crown Your Career: 8 to Great (NACE) Career Readiness Competencies, including:
Career & Self-Development – Exploring career options and articulating strengths and interests
Communication – Practicing professional conversations with employers
Critical Thinking – Connecting academic experiences to workforce needs
Equity & Inclusion – Engaging with diverse organizations and perspectives
Leadership – Demonstrating initiative, confidence, and goal setting
Professionalism – Practicing workplace norms, etiquette, and accountability
Teamwork – Reflecting on collaborative academic and co-curricular experiences
Technology – Utilizing career platforms, digital resumes, and application tools
These events directly reinforce classroom learning by helping students relate academic content into career-ready skills, enhancing their employability outcomes.
We encourage faculty and staff to:
-
Offer extra credit or attendance incentives
-
Include event details in syllabi or course announcements
-
Remind students that career preparation is an ongoing part of their academic journey
