Old Dominion University recently partnered with the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative (CCI) and other Hampton Roads regional educational institutions for the CCI Cyber Showcase hosted by the Coastal Virginia Center for Cyber Innovation (COVA CCI).

The virtual event highlighted educational and career pathways available in Coastal Virginia and was a collaborative effort where the region's colleges and universities had an opportunity to present their cybersecurity programs to prospective students.

"This program showcases that our region has a path to meet the needs and interests of every student. The presenters were fantastic, passionate about cyber education and committed to student learning and development," said Daniela Cigularova, executive director of the ODU Center for Advising Administration & Academic Partnerships.

Lenora Thorbjornsen, coordinator of first-year student success and cybersecurity advisor for ODU's Center for Advising Administration & Academic Partnerships, discussed cybersecurity offerings and ODU's School of Cybersecurity. A video of the session can be found at this link.

More than 120 participants, including high school students and parents, had the opportunity to visit up to four virtual rooms. They heard from CCI educational partners, current cyber students, and business and state leaders.

"Our goal was to reveal to the students and parents the wide variety of career paths available in cybersecurity," said Tracy Gregorio, president of G2OPS and event co-organizer.

Other participating schools were Christopher Newport, ECPI, Norfolk State universities, the College of William & Mary, and Eastern Shore, Paul D. Camp, Thomas Nelson and Tidewater community colleges.
