ODU Alumni Selected for Virginia Management Fellows Program

Two Old Dominion University alumni, Jessica Gaines and Joseph Roman, have been selected to participate in the Virginia Management Fellows program. The two-year fellowship, a collaboration of the Commonwealth of Virginia, Office of the Governor and School of Public and International Affairs at Virginia Tech, prepares future managers and leaders entering government roles to handle day-to-day and strategic challenges. Fellows rotate among three state agencies for eight-month periods.

Gaines graduated from ODU with a Bachelor of Arts in women's studies and went on to receive a Master of Business Administration from Western Governors University. Her first rotation will be as a regional human rights specialist for the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services.

Roman graduated cum laude with a health services administration degree from Old Dominion and is a Master of Public Administration candidate at Virginia Tech. His first rotation will be with the Department of Health Professions.

The purpose of the program is to strengthen succession planning efforts in the Commonwealth, providing the knowledge, skills and experience to prepare participants for permanent positions in the state.
