Michael Moore, Associate Registrar, is the Employee of the Month for July

Michael Moore, associate registrar with the University Registrar Office, is the July Employee of the Month.

Moore has been employed by the University since 2013.

Moore is being recognized for demonstrating his keen ability to grasp a complex idea and transform it into a practicable procedure that serves the needs of advisors, faculty, students and administrators.

According to Lisa Mayes, executive director for the Center for High Impact Practices (CHIP), "Mr. Moore has played a significant role in the development of the LeADERS program in CHIP. This program provides opportunities for undergraduate students to incorporate leadership, ePortfolios, academic internships, diversity and entrepreneurship into their degree program. Mr. Moore is well deserving of this honor for his amazing work, customer service and commitment to excellence."

Moore contributed to the development of a systematic process to help students navigate and track their progress in LeADERS using Degree Works, a web-based, degree-auditing and tracking tool that enables students and advisors to evaluate academic progress.

Mayes added that because of Moore's efforts, CHIP staff will have the ability to communicate information to students and track their progress more efficiently.

"Mr. Moore is now part of the LeADERS Advisory Team," Mayes said. "They look forward to his continued participation and support for student success at ODU."

DETAILS ABOUT THE EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH PROCESS

The University Employee of the Month Selection Committee encourages employees to nominate their outstanding, "go the extra mile" colleagues and employees. This program is designed to acknowledge and reward employees whose accomplishments and/or demeanor exemplify excellence, quality service and commitment to ODU. Classified and AP faculty employees receive a framed certificate from the president, $175 and one day of leave. Hourly winners get $250, since they are not eligible to receive recognition leave.

Note: The selection committee needs specific examples that relate to each applicable criterion in order to select a nominee for the award. Nominations remain active for six months from date of submission and nominators may submit additional documentation to support a nominee during the active six months.

The criteria used to nominate an employee include the following:

  • An outstanding accomplishment that benefited the department/students
  • Extraordinary service to internal and/or external customers
  • Inspiring initiative/leadership
  • Enthusiasm/energy given to assigned work
  • Teamwork
  • Exemplary efforts to nurture a climate of care, concern and civility and;
  • Creative innovations to service, process or work tools.
