The 2018 Juried Student Exhibition at The Baron and Ellin Gordon Art Galleries Showcases the Best of Student Work

Old Dominion University's Baron and Ellin Gordon Art Galleries is exhibiting the best student art works of 2018 in the Annual Juried Student Exhibition through Sunday, July 15.

The 2018 Juried Student Exhibition represents the breadth and quality of art produced by undergraduates in disciplines including drawing and design, graphic design, print and photo media, painting and three‐dimensional media.

This year's distinguished juror is Kimberli Gant, the McKinnon curator for modern and contemporary art at the Chrysler Museum in Norfolk. Before coming to the Chrysler, she was the Mellon doctoral fellow in the Art of Global Africa Department at the Newark Museum in Newark, New Jersey. She is also the former curator of exhibition and public programs at the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts in Brooklyn, New York.

She said her approach to the 2018 Juried Student Exhibition is similar to her general curating philosophy: "I am looking for how the work is impactful aesthetically, conceptually and to the artist's personal practice. In terms of their practice, this means how true the artist (in this instance, the student artist) is to her or himself from their experiences, how the work comes from what they know, and what they can contribute to the world."

The Baron and Ellin Gordon Art Galleries exhibit works by nationally and internationally recognized self‐taught artists, contemporary artists working in all media, and local and regional artists connected with Old Dominion University. Free and open to the public, with parking in the 45th Street garage.

Hours:

Tuesday - Saturday, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Sunday, 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.
