Explore the exciting world of Medical Laboratory Science through this hands-on, immersive summer experience at Old Dominion University. Designed for students ages 16 and older, the MLS Summer Immersion Program introduces participants to careers in clinical laboratories, with a special focus on blood bank and core laboratory disciplines.

Program Overview

Participants will receive safety training and gain practical experience performing laboratory testing across the four major areas of the clinical laboratory:

  • Clinical Chemistry
  • Transfusion Medicine (Blood Bank)
  • Clinical Hematology
  • Clinical Microbiology

Students will also hear from guest speakers working in the field and take part in additional enrichment activities, including a hospital laboratory tour.

Housing, meals, and parking are provided at no cost to participants. While on-campus housing is recommended, it is not required to participate in the program. Accepted students will also receive a stipend to use at their discretion.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Age 16 or older
  • Math/Science GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Overall GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred
