Application Process

To stay true to our program's and institution's dedication to all applicants and national recommendations (e.g. AAMC, APPD) regarding virtual interviews, all of our interview days this year will remain virtual, conducted via Zoom. We are proud of our program and look forward to the opportunity to share what makes it unique.

Graduates of medical schools in the United States and internationally are encouraged to apply. We are committed to recruiting accomplished residents from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Each application is reviewed holistically, with attention to candidates whose values and goals align with our mission. We do not use USMLE cut scores for screening, and Step 2 is not required at the time of application. Letters of recommendation should come from faculty who know you well and can best speak to your abilities, regardless of specialty.

Your interview day will include meetings with faculty, program leadership, and residents, as well as informational sessions designed to highlight key aspects of the program. Frequent breaks will be incorporated to ensure a comfortable experience throughout the day. Happy Hours will be hosted by residents to ask questions and speak in a casual setting.

Prior to your interview, you will receive your itinerary and guidance on navigating the virtual platform. Applicants are asked to use a computer or tablet rather than a smartphone to allow for optimal participation in group sessions.

Interview invitations and scheduling are managed through the ERAS and Thalamus systems.

We can't wait to meet you!

International Applicants

We welcome applications from qualified international medical graduates. All applications must be submitted through ERAS/Thalamus.

We are able to sponsor J-1 visas under current U.S. immigration policies and may consider H-1B visas on a case-by-case basis. International applicants should be ECFMG certified by January 31 to be considered for an interview.

The EVMS/ODU Pediatric Residency Program at CHKD participates in the NRMP and accepts all applications through ERAS. The deadline for consideration is November 15.
