Canvas is an online learning and course management system developed by Instructure, Inc. Canvas is designed to facilitate the creation, delivery, and management of educational content for institutions, educators, and learners.

Canvas provides a robust set of features and tools to support online teaching and learning, such as:

  • Course creation and management tools to create and manage course content, assignments, quizzes, and more.
  • Collaboration tools to bolster communication and collaboration in the form of discussion forums and messaging.
  • Features to create and administer assessments, quizzes, and exams, as well as a gradebook to manage grades and provide feedback.
  • Analytics and reporting tools that allow educators and administrators to track student progress, monitor engagement, and assess the effectiveness of instructional materials.

Notes

  • When creating or editing pages, assignments, discussions, etc. (any item within Canvas that utilizes the rich content editor) pay attention to the accessibility checker. Building accessible content within your course creates an equitable learning experience for the learner.
  • The built in link validator feature ensures all linked content within the course is functional and accessible.
