ODUMUNC 50

11-14 February 2027

Estemed Faculty, Delegates and Guests,

It is my great honor and privilege to welcome you to the 50th Old Dominion University Model United Nations Conference, ODUMUNC 50, at the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside Hotel, 11-14 February 2027.

For fifty years, ODUMUNC has brought together students to engage with the world's most pressing challenges through diplomacy, debate, and collaboration. As we celebrate this milestone conference, we also reflect on a simple truth: while the issues facing the international community may change, the need for thoughtful diplomacy endures.

This year's theme, Diplomacy Endures: 50 Years in the Making, recognizes the legacy of our conference and the enduring importance of international cooperation. Across five decades, generations of delegates have gathered in times of conflict, technological transformation, economic uncertainty and global change. Yet the central mission of the United Nations (and of Model United Nations) remains the same: bringing people together to solve problems that no nation can solve alone and to learn from eachother.

The topics before you this year reflect the challenges that will define the next generation of global leadership. From the Security Council to the World Bank, from the World Health Organization to the European Union, every committee offers an opportunity to explore how diplomacy can address emerging threats and longstanding global concerns.

On behalf of the Secretariat, thank you for choosing to be part of this historic conference. We are excited to welcome you to Norfolk and to celebrate fifty years of ODUMUNC. I look forward to the innovative ideas and spirited debate.
