The Library of Virginia, in partnership with Old Dominion University, presents a new exhibition, “Envisioning Revolution: Virginians in Action,” on view through October 2026 in Perry Library to commemorate Virginia’s role in the 250th anniversary of American independence.
The exhibition features printed displays of original works from students in ODU's Department of Art that envision Virginians featured in legislative petitions submitted to the state between 1776 and 1786. Those portraits and petitions, along with related research, are the foundation of the exhibition, providing insight into the diverse voices and revolutionary spirit of the time.
Join us this October for a panel discussion featuring the student artists, who will share their experiences researching and creating the work.
“Envisioning Revolution” celebrates both the history of Virginia and the role of student artists in bringing that history into the present!
