While there are many types of advisory boards, that which serves ODU Engineering comprises industrial consultants, investors, and ambassadors who provide a lens through which the College can view the pipeline between academia and industry. Another benefit of these engineering insiders is the connection made between the external organizations and companies to not only the College but also our faculty, students and staff. These relationships with the College provide the benchmark with which we weigh the relevance of - and ensure students are able to achieve their occupational dreams through - the College's offerings.
Building our Team:
Since its inception in 2004, the ODU Engineering Advisory Board has striven to build the best advisory team possible in effort to keep the College at its very finest. With that objective in mind, the membership has consistently included those individuals representing a constituent group for the College, whether that be alumni, employers or public or private entities. Despite its seemingly broad stroke, all of the described constituents have one thing in common: vested interest in the success of ODU Engineering. Through their expertise, experience and benevolence, these advocates aid the College in maintaining its superlative version.
What Do They Get out of the Deal?:
Specific markets, products, needs, or topics in the field are unfailingly addressed by a willing academic body. While it might be commonly held that the only product emanating from academia is graduates, the College is also able to provide the knowledge of our faculty, use of our world-class research facilities and the breadth of our consulting capabilities to eager customers.
Departmental Aids:
The industry help does not end at the College level, as each department maintains its own industrial advisory board as well. The smaller departmental boards act in a more specialized capacity in serving each engineering or technology discipline.
