Jodi S. Gidley, the late president of Virginia Natural Gas and alumna of ODU Engineering, was honored recently with a dedication of the company's corporate headquarters and announcement of a scholarship fund, both in her name.

Virginia Natural Gas announced in late November the creation of the Jodi S. Gidley Legacy Scholarship at Old Dominion University, where Gidley earned her master's degree in mechanical engineering from the Frank Batten College of Engineering and Technology.

She was a valued member of the ODU board since July 1, 2013, serving on the administration and finance and student advancement committees.

The scholarship recognizes the importance of increasing the engagement and retention of women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines. The grant will be awarded annually to a female full-time student who is pursuing an engineering degree and participates in the Engineering Early Advantage Program at ODU.

During the late November dedication ceremony, a commemorative plaque was placed outside the company's Virginia Beach headquarters paying tribute to Gidley's leadership and her commitment to Virginia Natural Gas, the community and the state. Virginia State Sen. Jeff McWaters presented a framed memorial resolution from the Commonwealth of Virginia.
