Electrical & Computer Engineering
Dr. Chunqi Jiang received her B.S. degree from Changchun Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, Changchun, China, in 1995; her M.S. degree from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Chengdu, China, in 1998; and her Ph.D. degree from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA, in 2002. She is an associate professor at ODU Center for Bioelectrics and Department of ECE, where she teaches electromagnetics for undergraduates at ECE.
In middle school, Jiang became interested in Engineering. "Those hands-on physics experiments at school had always been the coolest part for my school experience." This led to her becoming especially interested in non-equilibrium plasma and pulse power research and their interdisciplinary applications. "My research field falls under electrical engineering towards applied physics, or physical electronics." Jiang is inspired by opportunities for working on multidisciplinary fields and collaboration. As a woman, she recognizes the importance of diversity in engineering. "Over the years, the female students in my electromagnetics class had been less than 10%. Diversity in engineering is important in science innovation itself as well as the social equality."
Jiang says that her goal of teaching is to, "engage students in learning in the classroom and beyond (including the office hour discussion and participating research)." She says a high point in her teaching career was when two of her students excelled in their M.S. degree program after taking her Electromagnetics class.
