Dr. Laroussi's paper titled "Guided Ionization Waves: Theory and Experiments", published in 2014, is listed as one of the most cited papers of the prestigious journal "Physics Reports" (IF 22). Guided ionization waves in low temperature plasma jets were co-discovered by Dr. M. Laroussi and Dr. X. Lu in 2005 at ODU's Applied Plasma Technology Laboratory. Recently the Institute of Physics (IOP) celebrated the 50th anniversary of its world renowned Journal of Physics Series by publishing a collection of "viewpoints" articles written by top senior scientists. These articles look back on the last 50 years and highlight important achievements in the various topics of physics. Two of these articles directly mention two contributions of Dr. Laroussi in the field of plasmas and their applications. One mentions his development of a novel atmospheric pressure plasma reactor called "the resistive barrier discharge" in 2002, and the second highlights the emergence of plasma medicine and cites Dr. Laroussi's book on plasma medicine which was published by Cambridge University Press in 2012.

Soheila Mohades is the recipient of the PhD of the year (2017) award from ODU's Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. Soheila's dissertation research is on the effects of low temperature plasma (LTP) and plasma activated media (PAM) on cancerous and healthy cells.

Every month Physics Today publishes interesting scientific images in its "Backscatter" section. The October 2016 issue shows a photo of a table top experiment carried out at ODU's Applied Plasma Technology Laboratory that simulates the Aurora Borealis (or Northern Lights). Our group paper makes it on the cover page of Biointerphases

A paper authored by Laroussi, Mohdes, and Barekzi on the use of low temperature plasmas to kill cancer cells has been selected and featured on the latest issue of Biointerphases. Biointerphases is a journal published by the American Vacuum Society (AVS). In his paper Laroussi discusses the use of the plasma pencil to kill non-adherent cancer cells (Leukemia) and adherent cancer cells (prostate cancer and carcinoma). Dr. Mounir Laroussi delivered the opening plenary lecture at the European joint COST actions meeting on bioplasmas and plasma interaction with liquids. The meeting was held in Bertinoro, Italy, Sept. 13-16, 2015. COST stands for Cooperation in Science & Technology and is managed by the European Commission to foster cooperation between research Laboratories. Major European Labs working in the field of plasma medicine had their researchers attend this meeting. Dr. Laroussi's talk was titled " Activation of Liquid Media by Low temperature Plasma for Biomedical Purposes".

On October 8, 2014, Dr. Laroussi gave an invited talk at Princeton University's Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) on the biological and medical applications of low temperature plasmas. PPPL is the largest and most prestigious plasma physics laboratory in the world that is associated with a university. At PPPL scientists are mostly working on developing a nuclear fusion reactor for the generation of electrical energy.
