Student Spotlight: Katie Ellett

I had the opportunity to complete a consulting project for Escape Room Virginia in my Social Media Marketing class. I expressed that I'd love to help as an intern to implement the marketing plans that I had designed with my group. I was hired as the Escape Room Virginia Social Media Manager! Professor Carpenter has been instrumental in sparking my love for social media marketing. Her class was one of my favorite classes at ODU, and the skills and tools it gave me have been incredibly useful in not only my internship, but for developing my personal brand and growing as a young professional. Covid-19 has impacted the environment of my internship because I am working from home. Since I'm not there in person, my communication and organizational skills have improved. My supervisor has made me feel very welcome and has been an incredible mentor. One of my favorite duties as Social Media Manager is collaborating and communicating with an outside digital design company, and then watching my ideas come to life. I've been able to use knowledge I learned in class such as best times to post for each platform to help increase customer engagement. This internship has been an incredible experience that has prepared me for a successful future in marketing. I hope to be able to continue to gain experience through additional classes and another internship this Spring.
