Back to School: TCEP participates in Military Child Education Coalition Global Training Summit

Ahead of the new school year, TCEP Executive Director Dr. Joanna Garner recently traveled to Washington, DC to participate in the Military Child Education Coalition's Global Training Summit. This conference marked MCEC's 25th anniversary and included informative sessions and opportunities to hear from military-connected students from across the country. At the GTS Expo for organizations that support military connected schools and families, Dr. Garner was able to share examples of how the Center has served as the professional development lead or the evaluator on projects that support military-connected families. She provided copies of the TCEP-developed Quality of Transition Instrument survey tool designed for school counselors to use with military-connected students who are newly enrolled in their school. This is an important issue to focus on, given that military-connected students move on average between six and nine times between Kindergarten and their senior year of high school.

TCEP welcomes opportunities to engage with Virginia school divisions that are seeking to support military connected students and their teachers. If you are looking for resources to share with colleagues, MCEC has produced a fact sheet and a Guide to Understanding Military-Connected Student Transition.
