The Physics Olympics is an annual competition in the Hampton area letting teams of middle and high school students compete in a series of physics challenges. Teams earn points by completing challenges such as "Build a Magnet", where students have twenty minutes to build the strongest magnet possible using copper wire, iron nails, and electric current. Scores are tallied after all six events and prizes rewarded to the highest scoring teams. The thirtieth Physics Olympics was hosted at Cape Henry Collegiate School, organized by Dr. David Wright of Tidewater Community College, and supported by volunteers such as Dr. Lawrence Weinstein, Dr. Balsa Terzic, and Perry Nerem of Old Dominion University. The Physics Olympics is a fantastic event for promoting interest in science and organized by many in the Hampton Roads area. We look forward to seeing you at next years event!
