In late 2022, Governor Youngkin released his proposed budget amendments for the 2022-2024 biennium. The budget included an allocation of $10 million to cover one-time costs associated with the integration of Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) into Old Dominion University(ODU), as well as a new targeted timeline for integration of no later than July 1, 2024.

Given this deadline, ODU and EVMS are anticipating full integration by January 1, 2024. As Hampton Roads faces urgent health and economic disparities that must be addressed without delay, we have the need, vision, and will to make it happen. Integrating EVMS into ODU will be a major step toward achieving this goal. Moreover, it will enhance health care, strengthen educational programs, and bolster the workforce pipeline.

As the legislative session continues, it is very encouraging to see the strong support this important initiative is receiving among state leaders!
