Bob Wiemken and Joan Kimball, founders of Philadelphia's Piffaro Renaissance Band, teach early music workshops centered around period woodwind instruments.

SATURDAY, MARCH 23

10:00am-12:00pm: Historical introduction, audio and video with question/answer to follow - for everyone

12:00-1:00pm: Lunch provided in Room 1101

1:00-3:30 pm: Introduction to new shawms, shawm technique, hands on application - for woodwind players

3:30-4:00pm: break

4:00-6:30 pm: Alta capella - history, personnel, instrumentation, performance practice issues, playing session - for reeds and brass players, music provided

SUNDAY, MARCH 24

1:00-2:30pm: Presentation/discuss/application - Sound, tuning, scoring, phrasing, tempo, rhythm - for everyone, with instruments and supplied music

2:30-3:00pm: break

3:00-4:30pm: Recorder consort session - recorder technique, hands on application - for recorder players

4:30-5:00pm: break

5:00-6:30pm: Practical application, coached playing sessions - for everyone
