ODU Choir Invitational

We are very excited to offer an exciting opportunity for the top singers in your High School Choral program. You, and four (4) singers (male and/or female) are invited to join other top High School directors and singers from around the state in a one day Vocal/Choral Invitational at the F. Ludwig Diehn School of Music. The events of the day will include a variety of clinics and activities:

• Audition Techniques
• Vocal Issues and Solutions
• IPA and the Singer
• Teacher centered Conducting Techniques
• Choral rehearsals with the ODU Concert Choir and Diehn Chorale
• Performance demonstrations by the Madrigal Singers and Vocal Jazz Choir
• Recording session CD for you and your singers to take with you
• Group photographs of you with your singers

This day-long educational experience will allow your students to get a taste of collegiate life. They will work with a gifted and Internationally recognized faculty:

• Dr. Brian Nedvin, Coordinator of Vocal Studies and director of Opera and Musical Theatre
• Dr. Kelly Montgomery, Contralto, Voice Studio and Vocal Pedagogy
• Professor Agnes Fuller-Wynne, Soprano, Voice Studio and Diction
• Dr. Nancy K. Klein, Full Professor , Director of Choirs and Department Chair

Singers trained by these faculty members have received more than a dozen awards at Virginia NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) competition, with eight singers competing at Regional NATS, and two students earning the chance to compete at the National competition. The ODU Concert Choir was featured in a solo concert at Carnegie Hall in New York City in March of 2017, and will begin a collaboration with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra Symphony Chorus in four concerts throughout the academic year.

The events and clinic will be held in the state-of-the-art Diehn Center for the Performing Arts. Lunch, music, and rehearsal CDs will be provided for participating directors and students. This will be a free event for you and your students, however, you will need to provide copies of the music for each of your students that attend. Musical selections will be announced at a later date. We are looking forward to expanding your singers' abilities and augmenting the excellence that you have already begun.

As your academic year begins, we hope that you will plan to join us for the Annual Choral Invitational. The Deadline for participation is September 15, 2017.
