- Description
- Michael Dadap and Florante Aguilar will present a guitar workshop/concert, Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015, 12:15 PM, at Chandler Recital Hall in the Diehn Center for the Performing Arts at Old Dominion University. Dadap and Aguilar will discuss and perform various traditional styles and forms from the Philippines - such as harana, kundiman, balitaw, etc. - and discuss their geographic origins, the influences, the differences in style, and how some of the traditions thrived while others vanished. The guitar was the most employed instrument among the practitioners. They will highlight the versatility of this instrument - from virtuoisic to lyrical - and present it as the common thread that weaves and forms the traditional fabric. They will also discuss the classical guitar, its artistry, and the influences from Spain in terms of musical style and guitar technique. The workshop/concert is free and open to the public and is co-sponsored by the ODU Filipino American Center and the F. Ludwig Diehn School of Music.
