In honor of World Aids Day and also to celebrate the merger of ODU and EVMS, the Dept of World Languages and Cultures is organizing a special screening of the landmark film about the AIDS virus And the Band Played On.

In honor of World Aids Day and also to celebrate the merger of ODU and EVMS, the Dept of World Languages and Cultures is organizing a special screening of the landmark film about the AIDS virus And the Band Played On starring Matthew Modine, Richard Gere, Lily Tomlin, Ian Mckellen and an all star cast at the ODU Michael and Kimthanh Le Digital Theater and Planetarium from 6:30-9:00 pm on December 4.

The film will be followed by an interdisciplinary panel discussion.

The event is free and open to the public.

The film will be introduced by Dr. Peter Schulman, and the panelists will include:

  • Dr. Mekbib Gemeda, Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS)
  • Dr. Kate Hawkins, Professor of Communications, ODU
  • Dr. Najmeh Moradiyan-Rizi, Dept of Communications, ODU
  • Cathleen Rhodes, Director of Gay Cultural Studies, ODU
