Critical Importance of a Safe Environment for All

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff:

In the early hours of September 4, 2022, a shooting occurred on the 5000 block of Killam Avenue. The isolated incident did not occur on Old Dominion University (ODU) property. Additionally, ODU students were not identified as victims. 



Following this morning’s shooting, we are reminded of the critical importance in having a safe environment for all individuals. As such, Monarchs are encouraged to be mindful of their immediate surroundings at all times and exercise additional caution while off-campus during late night and early morning hours.



The ODU Police Department continues to work closely with the City of Norfolk Police Department to ensure that all is being done to provide the safest possible environment on our immediate campus and across the broader community. This is a top priority for our campus and our community.
