This is more of a class or workshop, where the focus is on learning new skills for managing emotions and expression through artistic process and materials. The hope for this experience is to provide space for ODU students and staff/faculty who have been directly or indirectly impacted by community violence to visually express their feelings in a semi-structured open studio. While this is not therapy, I am a therapist and can assist you with connecting to additional care if desired. This project will be primarily conducted with art-making, though no prior art experience is needed, and I will provide demonstrations and assistance with use of art materials.
Registration is not required but encouraged!
Facilitated by Maria Edwards, LPC, ATR-BC, Professional Counselor with the ODU Office of Counseling Services, in partnership with EVMS Arts for Optimal Health.
There will be a short pre-screening to complete to learn more about how we might be better able to help you. There will also be an optional anonymous post-session survey to provide feedback, which is highly appreciated.
