La-Neka Brown

La-Neka S. Brown, M.T., M.Ed., PMC

Director of Teacher in Residence


La-Neka S. Brown, a native of Portsmouth, Virginia, is an award-winning educator. In her career, La-Neka has worked with infants through senior adults. She has been a childcare provider, classroom teacher, reading specialist, assistant principal, and a Title I program specialist.

Ms. Brown is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, a Master of Teaching in Early Childhood Education and a Postgraduate Degree in Administration and Supervision. She also has earned a Master of Education degree from The University of Virginia in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus in Reading Education. Currently, Ms. Brown is earning her Ph.D. from VCU in Educational Leadership with a focus on justice and policy. Her research agenda focuses on belonging, and STEM education for African American girls.

When she is not focusing on her studies, La-Neka enjoys traveling, volunteering, gardening, and playing outdoors.
