Dr. Rajesh Paleti Receives Best Paper Award at International Transportation Conference
Dr. Rajesh Paleti recently received the Best Travel Behavior Paper award in the 2015 Transportation Research Board (TRB) Data Contest for his submission titled "Household-Level Vehicle Resources Allocation Model for Analyzing Short Term Vehicle Use Decisions." He was recognized for his accomplishment at the National Transportation Research Board Annual Meeting held in Washington, D.C. in January.
The data contest was organized by the TRB Statistics Committee that deals with the application of statistical methods in the transportation arena. The organizing committee identified two transportation problems in the transportation safety and travel behavior areas and provided common datasets for examining these problems. Transportation researchers were free to use any statistical method of their choice for the analysis. The authors were also required to demonstrate the performance of the statistical method used on a validation sample. In the travel behavior area, the specific objective of the contest was to examine short term vehicle use decisions, i.e., how do households use their vehicle resources on a day-to-day basis. This is important because short-term vehicle use decisions translate into fuel/energy use and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The study findings were presented during a workshop at the annual TRB conference in Washington DC. The TRB annual Meeting is a global event attended by nearly 12,000 professionals from around the world with several workshop, podium, and poster presentation sessions spanning a wide range of topics in transportation.
