ODU Jazz Auditions This Week

ODU Muscians! The ODU Jazz Orchestra (jazz ensemble), Jazz Choir, and Jazz Combo are holding auditions this week. 

The ODU Jazz Orchestra is a 19-piece big band/jazz ensemble. Auditions for saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar, bass (acoustic or electric), piano and drum set are on Tuesday, 8/30; sign up for a time and get lead sheets in the Music Office, Diehn room 2123. ODU Jazz Combo:

Looking for bass, drums, piano, guitar, sax, trumpet, trombone, and vocalist (ability to scat a plus).  Anyone auditioning should prepare the following:

Blues in F, including improvisation  (comping for chording instruments as well); One jazz standard, prepared melody and demonstrate improvisation (comping for chording instruments as well). Rhythm section players will also be asked to demonstrate swing, Latin, and ballad styles. Jazz Combo is open to ALL majors, not just music majors.  If interested in Jazz Combo or Jazz Choir, contact Professor John Toomey at jtoomey@odu.edu to arrange for an audition time.

ODU Jazz Choir:

Auditions take place during the first week of class.  Anyone interested should plan on attending class MWF, 1pm, in the Choral Rehearsal room, 1201, Diehn Center for the Performing Arts.  We will review material during those sessions that the audition will be based on.  Openings for SATB.  Must be able to read music.  Prior experience in a vocal ensemble is a plus.  Ensemble is open to ALL majors, not just music majors.  Contact Professor Toomey with any questions, jtoomey@odu.edu.
