"Monuments and Memory"
Spring 2027 course that includes a Spring Break trip to France. It'll be taught in English; everyone is welcome, and as well as serving the French, WCS, and Humanities programs, it would be a great Option D class.
"Monuments and Memory" interrogates the cultural links between France and the US from the late 18th century through to the present day, using cultural memory as its main lens. We will be staying in Paris with day trips to the Normandy D-Day beaches and Versailles. Highlights include Le Procope, an 18th-century cafe visited by Benjamin Franklin, Le Caveau de la Huchette, a jazz-era cafe where Count Basie (among others) performed, and the Père Lachaise cemetery where many famous figures are buried.

There is also a study abroad fair on Tuesday 10/6, 10:30-1:30, in the Webb Center.
