Conceived last year in part as a healing response to the recent events in our country, we experienced the most joyous event with our first CommUNITY Play-In & Sing-Along with over 700 people from all over the region coming together to celebrate what binds us together versus that which has torn us apart.
We are excited to be bringing it back for 2018!
Join your neighbors and come together to make beautiful music! Whether voice or violin, guitar or trumpet. Community musicians will perform alongside musicians of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra and Virginia Symphony Chorus, for CommUNITY: A Play-in & Sing-along event on Sunday, August 26th from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Scope Arena.
The concert is free and open to the public.
Listeners will enjoy a wide variety of music from symphonic classics to spiritual hymns and patriotic songs.
Performers joining the VSO and VSO Chorus include Teens With A Purpose, Todd Rosenlieb Adaptive Dance, Faith Leaders of Hampton Roads, a Norfolk Street Choir, and Elbert Watson, Dance Master at Norfolk Academy, former dancer with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, and Artistic Director of the Elbert Watson Dance Company. Barbara Hamm-Lee who hosts "Another View" on WHRV-FM will serve as the emcee of the event.
You don't have to play an instrument to join the fun! Click on the event below for more info and to register for the event (it's free!), so we can know how many fabulous shirts to order (yes, shirts available for the first 1000 participants).
