Neurobiologist and Stevenson Professor of Biological Sciences
"The Remarkable Brains and Behaviors of Unique Predators"
Ken Catania is a neurobiologist and a Stevenson Professor of Biological Sciences at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. Catania combines neuroscience, slow-motion video, and photography to understand the specialized brains and behaviors of predators and their prey. He has studied many unusual species, including star-nosed moles, water shrews, electric eels, crocodiles, snakes, and insects. His work is supported by the National Science Foundation and he has been recognized by many awards, including a MacArthur Fellowship (the "genius" grant), a John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship, and a Pradel Research Award from the National Academy of Sciences.
