TALKS AT PENINSULA CENTER FOCUS ON STEM FIELD APPLICATIONS

Two events at Old Dominion's Peninsula Higher Education Center focused on the ever-increasing engagement of ODU teaching and research in the vital science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields.

On November 6, Andy Dorsett of Wolfram Research Inc. gave a talk titled "Wolfram Products for Enhancing Math and Science Learning, and Classroom Success." The talk illustrated the capabilities of the Wolfram product Mathematica 8 that are directly applicable for use in teaching and research on campuses and schools.

Then on November 8, Ahmed Noor, the William E. Lobeck Professor of Modeling, Simulation and Visualization Engineering, led a discussion titled "Future Product Creation, Engineering Environments, and Skills Needed in the Coming Intelligence/Convergence Era (Post-Information Age)." The presentation was preceded by a social and followed by a series of demonstrations of the technology utilized in Noor's Center for Advanced Engineering Environments laboratory.

Created in 2001, the Center for Advanced Engineering Environments serves as a focal point for the diverse research activities pertaining to collaborative distributed engineering knowledge discovery and exploitation, intelligent synthesis, and advanced learning technologies, and their application to complex engineering systems.
