LEAN INSTITUTE HOSTS LEAN EDUCATOR CONFERENCE, LEC-2012

The Lean Educator Conference 2012 was hosted by the Batten College of Engineering & Technology and the Lean Institute in the Department of the Engineering Technology. The conference was held at Sheraton Waterside in Norfolk from Thursday, September 30th to Saturday, October 1st.

Ninety-four participants from 12 different counties took part in engaging workshops, and technical sessions that facilitated sharing of best practices in Lean education and training. Highlights included keynote speakers Mike Rother, consultant and author of several books, Ron Murray, vice president of Quality and Process Excellence for Newport News Shipbuilding and Elsa Mersereau, an industrial engineer who currently works in Lean healthcare.

Participants also had the opportunity to attend a tour of the STIHL factory or Bauer Compressors, both of which have implemented Lean principles into their daily operations. The conference closed with a hint of fun as participants boarded the American Rover cruise to enjoy a tour of the Hampton Roads Harbor.
