GHEORGHE CO-AUTHORS BOOKS ON ENERGY

On the heels of the announcements of a new graduate certificate for energy systems and the development of an energy minor within the Batten College, another energy-related announcement emerged. Adrian Gheorghe, Batten Chair of Systems Engineering and the director of the Energy Research Cluster, co-authored two books concerning topics related energy. The first, entitled Resilient Energy Systems, gives readers access to information, engineering design and economic solutions for harvesting local and regional energy potential by means of solar, wind, hydro resources.

With renewable energy systems playing an important role in the current discourse on energy security and sustainability, there is a constant effort to understand mechanisms and options to allow a faster penetration of renewable systems in the current energy mix and energy market. Resilient Energy Systems will enable graduate students, researchers, promoters of sustainable energy technologies, consulting engineering experts, knowledgeable public to understand the solutions, methods, techniques suitable for different phases of design and implementation of a large selection of renewable energy technologies, and to identify their sustainability in application and policy.

The other title, Energy Security, addresses, in a comprehensive manner, the current problematic of energy security and goes beyond pipeline politics, without playing down their continued significance. It also addresses some topical questions related to the sustainability and resilience of energy systems.

This recent book work aligns well with Dr. Gheorghe's research interests which encompass the fields of risk and vulnerability assessment for complex systems, risk assessment transportation of dangerous good, systems engineering modeling for critical infrastructures (e.g. energy systems, multimodal transportation infrastructures, IT security, and petrochemical and refineries complexes), system of systems engineering, sustainable development, homeland security related research and policy science implementation.
