Road Construction Projects Could Cause Possible Travel Delays Over Commencement Weekend
Participants in Old Dominion University commencement ceremonies this Friday and Saturday should be mindful of possible travel delays because of construction projects in the region.
The Virginia Department of Transportation will close eastbound lanes of the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel from 8 p.m. Friday, May 4, until 5 a.m. Monday, May 7, to place new asphalt overlay on the lanes within the eastbound HRBT tube. All westbound lanes will remain open throughout the weekend.
Also, from Saturday, May 5, through Thursday, May 10, traffic lane modification work will take place at the intersection of Hampton Boulevard and Terminal Boulevard. This work, which is being done for safety purposes, will close turn and through lanes on both streets, according to a city of Norfolk news release. However, detours will not be necessary, as two lanes (one turn and one through lane) will always remain open in each direction.
The following lanes will be closed at times:
- Southbound left turn lane from Hampton Boulevard onto eastbound Terminal Boulevard
- Westbound left turn lane from Terminal Boulevard onto southbound Hampton Boulevard
- One lane coming out of the Virginia International Terminal gates will be closed (intermittently).
