ODU OPEN HOUSE ON APRIL 26 AT UMW DAHLGREN CAMPUS
The Dahlgren Education and Research Center at the hosted an open house on April 26 by Old Dominion University (ODU) to showcase that university's course offerings available. This new campus site offers courses for engineering and scientific educational opportunities for Dahlgren employees to support the advanced education and credentialing requirements of the Navy base's highly-skilled scientific workforce.
In addition to graduate-level courses for base employees, David J. McMillan, site director for ODU, is excited about this new facility providing "a greater opportunity to integrate into the King George community, as we're not restricted to enrolling only students who have base access."
McMillan noted that ODU offers much more than just the engineering, computer science, and such programs important to the base community. "Besides those STEM-oriented programs, we also offer several business degrees, psychology, criminal justice, human services, teacher preparation programs (PreK-6 and special education), teacher licensure programs, several nursing programs and more," McMillan said.
All programs can be completed locally, either through live satellite broadcasts delivered to classrooms at the UMW Dahlgren Campus or through various online deliveries.
A list of ODU Distance Learning programs is online at http://dl.odu.edu/programs. Registration is currently available for summer and fall courses. Those interested in completing their undergraduate degrees may bring copies of their transcripts to next week's open house for an on-the-spot evaluation.
McMillan said they offer courses via live, interactive satellite broadcasts of classes meeting at ODU's Norfolk campus. In addition, many of their enrollments use various online delivery methods, with some programs that can be completed entirely online.
The new facility is located in Dahlgren and accessed from US 301. It is immediately south of the retail section of the regional King George Gateway development, on the south side of Walmart.
