Monarchs Record Triple Play in Home Game Against Longwood
Old Dominion University baseball is in a rebuilding year. But last night's game, against Longwood University at the Bud Metheny Complex, saw the home team achieve a rare feat.
The Monarchs, 18-29 on the season, turned a triple play. In the Longwood fifth inning, Travis Biddix led off with a single, followed by a walk to Joey Varaksa. Scott Burkett then hit a line drive to ODU shortstop Josh Wright, who stepped on second to double off Biddix and threw to first baseman Austin McGowan to get Varaksa for the third out. That was the first triple play ODU had turned since last year, at JMU on March 26.
Statisticians estimate that a triple play occurs only once every 10,000 innings of baseball played.

Longwood rallied for a 9-7 victory in the game.
