Jonathan Bartlett, ODU Alumnus and Wounded Vet in HBO Film, Dies
Jonathan Bartlett, an Old Dominion University alumnus and Iraq war veteran passed away on April 17 at the age of 27. He served in Iraq as an Army infantryman and lost both of his legs as a result of an improvised explosive device attack in 2004. His experiences as a double amputee home from the war were documented in an HBO television documentary and numerous articles in The Virginian-Pilot newspaper.
After returning home from Iraq and undergoing extensive rehabilitation, Bartlett enrolled at ODU and earned a bachelor's degree in business administration-management in 2010. After graduating, he took a position in human resources at Naval Air Station Norfolk.
Bartlett was interred at the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk on April 21. His family has asked that those who wish to honor his memory make a donation in his name to the Wounded Warrior Project.
