R.P. JOSHI, University Professor and Eminent Scholar of electrical and computer engineering, nominated and accepted as an IEEE Distinguished Lecturer with the Nuclear & Plasma Science Society.
AWARDS/HONORS
DR. DAVID CROUSE, adjunct associate professor of dental hygiene, selected as first honorary member of the Tidewater Dental Hygienists' Association.

DANA CHILDRESS, doctoral student, communication disorders and special education, "Looking Through the Kaleidoscope: An Evaluation of Virginia's Service Coordination Training Curriculum" at the International Conference on Young Children with Special Needs and Their Families in National Harbor, Md. Co-authors are Corey Hill, Virginia Department of Education, and SHARON RAVER-LAMPMAN, professor of communication disorders and special education.
SAIKOU DIALLO, senior project scientist, Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center, "Using the Levels of Conceptual Interoperability Model and Model-based Data Engineering to Develop a Modular Interoperability Framework" at the Winter Simulation Conference in Phoenix. The paper was published in the ACM/IEEE/SCS proceedings. Co-authors are ANDREAS TOLK, professor of engineering management, and Jason Graff and Anthony Barraco of General Dynamics Information Technology.
SHARON RAVER-LAMPMAN, professor of communication disorders and special education, "Parallel Talk: Effects on the Language and Interactional Skills of Preschoolers with Deafness" at the Ireland International Conference on Education in Dublin. Also, "Increasing Pragmatics with the Use of Dyad-specific Social Stories" at the International Conference on Young Children with Special Needs and Their Families in National Harbor, Md. Co-authors are JONNA BOBZIEN, lecturer; PEGGY HESTER, professor; ANN MAYDOSZ, adjunct professor, and ANNE MICHALEEK, doctoral student, communication disorders and special education.
ANDREAS TOLK, professor of engineering management, the keynote for the NATO Research and Technology Organization's Information Systems and Technology Panel Symposium on "Semantic and Domain-based Interoperability." His presentation was titled "Levels of Conceptual Interoperability and the Quest for Common Understanding" and opened the workshop on a new semantic interoperability framework. Also, "Model Theoretic Implications for Agent Languages in Support of Interoperability and Composability" at the Winter Simulation Conference in Phoenix. The paper was published in the ACM/IEEE/SCS proceedings. Co-authors are SAIKOU DIALLO, senior project scientist, and JOSE PADILLA, research assistant professor, both from the Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center, and Heber Herencia-Zapana of the National Institute of Aerospace. Tolk organized and chaired a subject-matter panel for the conference on "Towards a Methodological Approach to Identify Future M&S Standard Needs." He and nine others were participants and authors of a proceeding paper. Tolk also was invited to participate in a subject-matter expert panel at the conference, about "Educating the Workforce: M&S Professional Education." Chair and main author was Margaret Loper.
D.E. WITTKOWER, assistant professor of philosophy, "Terrorism, Technology, and Direct Action," a plenary presentation by invitation at the first event of Unlike Us: Understanding Social Media Monopolies and their Alternatives, Unlike Us Limassol, Cyprus University of Technology.
