Employees Contribute More than $113,000 to Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign

So close! Old Dominion employees contributed $113,515 to the 2011 Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign (CVC), which was 97.86 percent of the university's $116,000 goal.

The annual CVC campaign solicits donations from state agencies throughout Virginia to support local United Way agencies as well as a host of other area, state, national and international charitable organizations.

Twenty-nine percent of ODU employees made contributions as part of the campaign, which officially ended with the close of the fall semester. The average gift was $163.

"We wish to thank all of the employees who contributed to their favorite charities during the campaign," said Karen Travis, assistant vice president for community engagement, who chaired the university's CVC drive. "These are tough economic times, but once again the campus community stepped up with a strong showing of support for others in need."

The following campaign departments and offices exceeded their individual goals in the campaign: University Marketing, Human Resources, VP/Academic Affairs, Library, Registrar, Dean/Arts and Letters, Foreign Languages, Humanities, Philosophy, Political Science, Business Management, Dean/Education, Communication Disorders, Engineering Technology, Dean/Sciences, Psychology, Dean/Health Sciences, Physical Therapy, Career Management, Student Life, Budget, Business Gateway, Design and Construction, Real Estate Foundation, Auditor, Controller and VP/Administration and Finance.

Human Resources, Institutional Advancement and Administration and Finance are the overall vice presidential areas that reached their division-wide goals.

Two associate groups of the university, the Research Foundation and Faculty Emeriti organization, also played a significant role in the success of the campaign, with a combined donation of $11,095.

Weekly prize drawings, open to all contributors, were held throughout the campaign. Melissa Scott in the Office of Financial Aid was the last winner. She received a soccer ball bag filled with several different ODU T-shirts.
