Basketball Team's Missing Uniforms Found

The Old Dominion University men's basketball team has had a wild season so far. But thanks to the alert work of the Old Dominion University Police Department, at least they'll be well dressed for Saturday's game against the William and Mary Tribe.

The Monarchs are in the thick of the Colonial Athletic Association conference race. They've played five overtime games. They've taken two of the top teams in the national rankings, Kentucky and Missouri, to the final minutes before losing close games.

Even the equipment managers from the team have shared in this season's excitement.

The Monarchs returned home from Richmond after losing to archrival VCU on Saturday night, only to find out that thieves had broken into the team room at the Ted Constant Convocation Center and stolen athletic equipment, including several of the team's white "home" uniforms.

But just before 8 a.m. on Tuesday morning, as an ODU police officer was conducting a check of Parking Lot 42, he was flagged down by a member of the ODU grounds crew, who directed him to a suspicious bag in the lot.

The officer determined that the bag was the property of the ODU basketball team after searching the contents: five white ODU jerseys, four blue jerseys, three pairs of athletic shoes, one pair of blue and four pairs of white basketball shorts, and a long-sleeved shirt.

The property has been turned over to ODU Athletics.
