Public Seminar on Impact of Sea Level Rise on Marshes
A scientist visiting from the University of Maryland will present a program on the impacts of sea level rise on Chesapeake Bay tidal marshes at a seminar of Old Dominion University's Center for Coastal Physical Oceanography (CCPO) on Monday Oct. 24.
Court Stevenson, an expert on the ecology of marsh and sea grass systems, will speak at 3:30 p.m. in Room 3200 of the Innovation Research Park Building 1. The seminar is free and open to the public, as is a reception that will begin at 3 p.m. in the CCPO lobby.
As a researcher at the Horn Point Laboratory of the University of Maryland's Center for Environmental Science, Stevenson has monitored tidal marshes and worked in recent years to restore marshes affected by sea level rise.
The talk, part of the CCPO Fall Seminar Series, supports the ODU Climate Change and Sea Level Rise Initiative that was launched last year.
