Portfolio Recovery Associates Chairman to Give Landmark Executive-in-Residence Address

Steve Frederickson, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Portfolio Recovery Associates Inc., will give the next Landmark Executive-in-Residence address to Old Dominion University's College of Business and Public Administration.

The lecture will be held in Room 1005 Constant Hall from 12:30-1:20 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13. Pizza and soft drinks will be served beginning at 12:15 p.m.

Frederickson co-founded Portfolio Recovery Associates, a market leader in the consumer debt purchase and collection industry, in 1996. He led it through a successful initial public offering in 2002, and the company has become an industry leader with operations in 10 states, approximately 25 million customer accounts and more than 2,500 employees.

Frederickson is a member of the Executive Advisory Council of ODU's business college and serves on numerous other boards.

He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Denver and an M.B.A. from the University of Illinois. Prior to founding Portfolio Recovery Associates, he was vice president of Household Recovery Services' portfolio recovery group, where he was ultimately responsible for the portfolio sale and purchase programs, finance and accounting and other functional areas of the company.

Frederickson also served for five years with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. workout department of the Continental Bank of Chicago, specializing in corporate and real estate workouts. He began his career as a self-employed independent trader at the MidAmerica Commodity Exchange in Chicago.

The Landmark Executive-in-Residence speaker series is designed to enrich students' entrepreneurial spirit, their awareness of the success that can be built on their academic experience and their understanding of the importance of leading with integrity.

The program is dedicated to bringing accomplished business leaders, many of whom are ODU alumni, to campus to share their history and vision, giving students the opportunity to learn first-hand the strategies and experiences that forge great ethical global leaders.

Established in 2001, the Landmark Executive-in-Residence program is funded by an endowment from a group of former Landmark Communications executives in honor of the late Frank Batten Sr., who served as chair of the executive committee of the Landmark board and was the first rector of the ODU Board of Visitors.
