New York Voices Jazz Ensemble to Perform for Diehn Concert Series
Grammy Award-winning vocal ensemble New York Voices will perform on the Old Dominion campus at 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, for the university's Diehn Concert Series.
The concert will be held in Chandler Recital Hall of the Diehn Center for the Performing Arts.
The Boston Herald recently lauded the ensemble for its polished performing style: "To collect such quality voices in one group is rare enough, yet the real trick of New York Voices is how well they mesh."
New York Voices has performed in such prestigious venues as Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Blue Note Jazz Clubs (New York, Milan and Tokyo) and at the North Sea, Montreal and Cape Town jazz festivals. The group has also performed with many well-known artists and orchestras, including Ray Brown, Patti Austin, George Benson, the Metropole Orchestra, the Boston Pops, the WDR Big Band and the Count Basie Orchestra.
New York Voices continues to tour with both Paquito D'Rivera and Ivan Lins, presenting two independent programs of Brazilian music.
The ensemble will also conduct a clinic/master class at 12:30 p.m. Oct. 18 in Chandler Recital Hall.
Tickets for the concert are $10 for students and $15 for the general public. For more information call 683-5305 or visit http://oduartstix.com.
The Diehn Concert Series is made possible by an endowment established at The Norfolk Foundation by the late F. Ludwig Diehn and his wife.
