DEAN'S CORNER
The horizon. People are always asking what they will discover on the other side of it. In the College, spring semester routinely serves as the horizon line for those seniors moving on from the halls of Kaufman. Whether moving onto new careers or new locales, new educational commitments or new professional responsibilities, graduates meet nothing less than the unexpected upon receiving their diplomas.
Fall semester exhibits another, completely distinct, view of the horizon line. Although the heat of the summer has yet to cool, our Future Engineer and Game Development summer camps have concluded and freshmen are afoot for PREVIEW orientation and the Early Engineering Advantage Program. It is the horizon of new beginnings for students coming to ODU from near and abroad. These students bring with them unique socioeconomic, educational, religious, and political backgrounds and interests.
To our newly minted freshmen, let me first express my heartfelt congratulations! Entering into Old Dominion University represents the incredible achievement that you have successfully undertaken to insure that your tomorrows satisfy the goals that you have established thus far. I wish each of you much success during your time here at ODU, and I am confident that the engineering education you are pursuing will carry you successfully over the horizon of achievement onto new and exciting heights.
ODU Engineering is made stronger by every one of our students. We are grateful for our diverse student body. Though changing societal needs, economic trends, and new technological advances continue to transform the face of education, ODU Engineering can pride itself in helping our students build a close support system. No matter their domestic background, our students are backed by a dedicated faculty and staffs so they can successfully navigate their college experience and best meet their academic and professional goals.
As we enter into the new academic year, comes a new horizon of engineering.
It offers ODU Engineering an exciting challenge, one we take on with great enthusiasm.
