CORPORATE CIRCLE PARTNERS SHINE AS BEST PLACES TO WORK

It is no secret that ODU Engineering Corporate Circle partners are special to the College. What was learned recently as the Annual Best Places to Work edition of Inside Business was published is that these organizations are also special to their employees. Three of our partners made the ranks and two were inducted into the Best Places to Work Hall of Fame. Sumitomo Machinery Corporation of America, based in Chesapeake and headed by Ron Smith, president and CEO and an ODU Engineering alumnus, took top honors for Best Mid-Sized Company. The global power transmission company employs 200 people. Although the company mission is a serious one, the company does what it can to keep the work atmosphere light. From its annual Thanksgiving feast that is held in the "shop" and birthday leave, to its generous benefit package and the dunk tank that made its appearance during the company picnic, Sumitomo has made a true impression on its employees. As a recurring entry in Inside Business' Best Places to Work, certain businesses acquire the distinction as a Best Places to Work Hall of Fame awardee. For continued commitment, WRSystems Ltd. and Clark Nexsen have attained such a designation. For WRSystems, an innovative systems engineering product development and support services firm with almost 300 employees and headed by another engineering alumnus, Dave Edwards, its commitment to employees begins on day one. Employees come into work on their first day greeted by a work environment that would make anyone feel right at home. With desk and necessary paperwork ready to go, an employee can effortlessly settle into his or her first week at the company. Clark Nexsen also now holds the Hall of Fame distinction from Inside Business. The company, which provides architectural and engineering services, helps to keep its employees healthful, in mind and body. Clark Nexsen not only holds several morale-boosting events throughout the year but also hosts an annual health fair and offers free flu shots for employees.
